We run multiple servers hosting hundreds of Laravel apps and recently we noticed that Laravel installations fail at times.

We believe that this is caused by the fact that Laravel recently started using github tokens for downloading libraries. One user can download a limited number of libraries per day with his/her token. That is why the first ~5 installation for a given day go through successfully , whereas all of the following installtions cannot be completed.

I would suggest that you add multiple github tokens which can be rotated at a certain period and this way this inconvenience will be avoided.

For the time being we offer manual installations for those who cannot install it via Softaculous but after all that why we use autoinstallers :)

I hope for a timely resolution.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Can you please let us know exactly which github tokens are you referring to ?

We will check it and make required changes.

The issue is similar to the one described here:

https://github.com/composer/composer/issues/3542

With every installation a different module fails ( the issue is not always related to composer )  and the token should be inserted manually. That is valid for installations as well - not only updates.

When a user installs it via Softaculous , the token should be predetermined. I suppose that you use some default token but github have limited the number of downloads so a single one will not do.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Hi,

Thank you for sharing the details.

The above guide states to add the github token to the composer.json file. We unzip the composer.json as provided by Laravel and we do not make any changes. This composer.json does not have the github token.

If you want we can make a hook for you that will create the token randomly.
