There are some confusing (to me) instructions in using Softaculous to install WordPress. The objective is to have the installation files in /wp/ instead of the root directory of my shared server installation.

If I tell Softaculous to install WordPress in the WP folder, it does so, but when I go to mydomain.com, WordPress does not start. The way I have found to make it work involves moving the index.php file to the public_html folder and editing it to include /wp/.

It seems from the online materials I've read that installation WordPress manually will take care of this change. (WordPress address: mydomain.com/wp; Site address: mydomain.com). Since I have not yet installed WordPress manually, I don't know if it works as it appears.

The question is, how do I install Wordpress with Softaculous in the mydomain.com/wp/ folder such that when someone goes to mydomain.com, the WordPress installation in the /wp/ folder works?

(Assume that the links are complete above. The site will not let me post links.)

Hi,

If you want your users to access your site at mydomain.com you will have to leave the "In Directory" field blank on the install form then WordPress will be installed on the root of your domain. If you have not made any changes to your installation yet you can remove the installation and install WordPress again.

If you have made the changes you can Clone the installation from /wp/ directory to the root :

Make sure you leave "In Directory" field blank to install in root.

I think I understood what you are saying. It seems that there is not a simple way to do what I want just using Softaculous. The manual modification I have to make is not hard to do, but it seems like the task I want to accomplish would be popular enough that it could be done without having to manually edit PHP files.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

Sir the installation process is easy and the same as you did before. You just need to leave the "In Directory" field blank.
