How soon do you think the Bug Genie 4.0.1 installer will be available?

My current provider only allows Softaculous shell access, so either I wait for Softaculous to provide the BG4.0 installer or I switch hosting companies to gain shell access.  Would much rather stick with current provider and write a tutorial for BG education featuring a Softaculous install (much easier for me)!

Cheers!

Awesome! No problem!  For such a complex problem (for me, anyway), I am really appreciative of your team's efforts making really-cool free software much more accessible with your installers.

Thanks!

Hi,

Very interesting question, as i also search for the same and i assume a lot of people more as Buggenie is in version 4 since some time already.

When is planned the lrease? let us know once you have news.

By the way if we have instaled the previous version (3.2.7.1) using Softculous, do we go to have the possibilty to migrate to version 4 automatically?

thanks.

Hi,

We will try to release the 4.x version asap.

If there is an upgrade utility in BugGenie itself we will add it as well.

Thank you for your patience.

I would gladly buy the Softaculous team a one-month support plan from the Bug Genie team if that would help implement the upgrade process below.  Just PM me a paypal or other payment service you use, and I'll contribute the 49 euros: http://www.thebuggenie.com/pricing

The upgrade process steps are located here: https://github.com/thebuggenie/thebuggenie/blob/master/UPGRADE.md

They are as follows:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT UPGRADING FROM THE BUG GENIE 3.2

The Bug Genie 4.0 uses a dependency resolution tool called composer, which must
be downloaded and run before The Bug Genie can be installed, upgraded or used.

Download and install composer.json from http://getcomposer.org before you continue.

After you have followed the instructions to download and install composer, run
php composer.phar install
from the main directory of The Bug Genie. Composer will download and install
all necessary components for The Bug Genie, and you can continue to the actual
upgrade as soon as it is completed.

The document root folder has been renamed from thebuggenie/ to public/ - if you
are using a virtual host setup, remember to update the configuration to point
the document root to the public/ subfolder, instead of thebuggenie/

upgrade via web

Before starting the upgrade, please check the following:

  • Make sure the "installed" file contains the correct main version (3.2 for any 3.2.x versions, etc) of your setup (you can find this by visiting /about)
  • Make a backup of your database
  • If using file storage, also make a backup of your files/ folder
Also, when upgrading from 3.2, make sure you follow these steps before starting the actual upgrade:
  • Remove the folder /core/cache entirely, including subfolders and/or files
  • Create a folder named "cache" under the root thebuggenie/ folder
  • Copy the file core/config/b2db.sample.yml -> core/config/b2db.yml, and use the values from core/b2db_bootstrap.inc.php to populate the file you copied
  • Create a file called "upgrade" in the directory where "installed" is located
  • Make both "installed" and "upgrade" writable by the web-server
  • Update any links in your web server configuration from pointing to the thebuggenie/ subfolder, to point to the public/ subfolder

Then, visit the location /upgrade in your web-browser and the
upgrade wizard will start, and guide you through the upgrade process.

The version number in the "installed" file will be automatically updated

via command-line

Command-line upgrades are not supported.

thank you for this precious information.

But when trying to update using the web interface and after folowwing the steps i have the message:

the Bug Genie upgrade
No upgrade necessary!
If the file /home/folder/public_html/buggenie/upgrade exists, please remove this file and click the "Finish" button below.

when i go to the /about folder i can see i have the version 3.2.7.1.

Something is strange in the upgrade instructions, do i have to upload the 4.0 files or something like there? or do we expect to donwload the files during the web wizzard? (this is what i expect but..)

As in the instructions in this specific part:
copy core/config/b2db.sample.yml -> core/config/b2db.yml

this files belong to the version 4 and not to the 3.2 i think. i don't have it.

When checking the upgrade instruction page look like if in any case we have to rue the composer.phar before,  maybe is because of the error when runing the composer.

Do you have any idea?

From what you describe above it sounds like you're trying to perform the install manually, which is rewarding if you have the time and shell access.  Go to the bug genie forum -- which very well supported -- to ask for help doing this:
http://forum.thebuggenie.org/

I posted the instructions from the Bug Genie team so the Softaculous team can automate them, and I don't think they have yet:  https://eau.a2u2.com:2083/cpsess911659816/frontend/x3/softaculous/index.live.php?act=software&soft=231

If the Softaculous team can automate the upgrade, Softaculous will run
the composer.phar file for us, create folders, copy info, etc.  We'll
probably get an option or warning to upgrade our database prior running
the upgrade.  Awesome!

FYI: You should get a message in your cPanel in the Softaculous section that an upgrade for BG is available.  You can also set the Softaculous Cpanel tool to email you when specific upgrades become available.
