Topic : Backup with Exclusions

Our host uses your install.... gotta love it.

I installed Joomla 1.5 on the root dir (public_html) as my main site.  I have also created subdomains (wiki, office, joomla25) which added subdir on the root.
The backup/restore of subdir apps works great.

Here is my problem, the main site at the root is small (about 17M total). When I do a backup it is well over 179M.  I looked at the zip and all 3 subdomain are included in the backup. This is a problem.

If I ever needed to restore the root, then the subdir will be restored also. This is my dilema.

Is there a way to exclude this subdir from the root backup?

I prefer to use you backup/restore for easy of use. I would rather not use a different back. I had use the Akeeba backup (joomla ext) and it allowed exclusions for both dir & files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any news on this? I've got enormous subdomain (around 5GB) and I really don't have to backup it. But the main domain is in stable editing process. Every time I backup I have to get a gigantic backup. Guys let me know what can I do!

Hi,

Which version of Softaculous are you using ?

We have already added this in Softaculous. Backups will now include the sub domains/addon domains and other installations that are listed on Softaculous while backing up a particular installation.

Can you please try to take a fresh backup ?

I'm using version 4.6.1.

I'm actually trying to exclude sub domains folders not include them during backup.

By the way software in the sub domain folder is not supported in Softaculous as far as I'm aware - ResourceSpace.

Summary:
In the main root (public_html), I've got wordpress installation. I also have subdomain folder like: assets.domain.com which contains that 20GB medias. When I backup that WordPress installation, it get 20GB in every backup as includes subdomain folder.

Hi,

If the sub domain is listed on the install form of a script that sub domain should be excluded during the backup.

Are you taking the backup via Enduser panel or CLI utility ?

It won'd be listed as ResourceSpace is not within Softaculous. Is there any simple way I can't check folders to be ignored during backup. Or register ResourceSpace installation?

I'm using Enduser utility, got also access to WHM, but couldn't see anything for that in settings.

Hi,

We have made the exclusions of the sub-domains / addon domains if they are listed under cPanel.

If you can open a support ticket with us we can check this for you :

As to my original post, the replies seem to indicate the functionality is there. I looked and it is NOT.  The question is to be able to exclude specifically indicated subdir within a domain backup. For example, not to include a subdir containing huge video files within the backup. Or to exclude a single file. Most all backup software I have used in past does have the ability to selectively include or exclude directories or files.
Is this feature available on the backup program used in Softaculous? If not , is it planned?

Hi,

We will add the option to choose the files/folders to be included in the backup.

We will try to add it soon.

That would be exactly what I'm looking for also. Do you have any anticipated release date?

Hi,

We do not have an ETA at the moment. I will be probably within a month.

However if you have root access to your server I can email you the files.

I see this new functionality - is there anyway to exclude a folder that is part of the install (i.e. there is a cache folder included in the installation by default, which there is no reason to backup)

Hi,

At the moment it is not possible to exclude the folders that exist in the installation by default. We will see if it can be added in future releases.
