I noticed that Joomla! 2.5 was still available in Softaculous.  At least you can disable this version the Softaculous Dashboard in the WHM.  But my question is, should this version be removed from Softaculous completely?  It makes no sense for users to install an end-of-life version of a piece of software.

Are there other softwares in Softaculous that fit this same bill?

Hi,

We are aware that Joomla 2.5 has reached end of life but we have not yet removed it because there are many users who have installed Joomla 2.5 and have not upgraded to Joomla 3 and if we remove Joomla 2.5 from Softaculous they will not be able to manage their installations i.e. Backup, Restore, Upgrade, etc hence we have not yet removed it.

We will discuss this with our team and see if we can remove this completely.

As you said you can definitely disable the script from WHM -> Softaculous Admin panel -> Software
http://www.softaculous.com/docs/Enable/Disable_Scripts

If you have several servers to replicate this setting you can disable the script on one of your servers and then replicate the following file to all your servers :
/path/to/softaculous/enduser/iscripts.php

Perhaps a compromise would be to prevent new installs of Joomla! 2.5.

In my opinion, a fire should have been lit under all Joomla! 2.5 users a long time ago to force them to update.  December 2014 was 2 years ago and people are still using end-of-life software?

Perhaps calling it "end-of-life" is not catchy enough or too wordy.  Perhaps a different term needs to be made to identify software that is no longer under active development and should not be used.

If end-users can't manage their Joomla! 2.5 site in the Softaculous dashboard, then perhaps that lights a fire under them to realize "hey! maybe I should update my Joomla! site to a version that is under active development"
