Loving the autoback up  :D

We do notice an issue.

We registered a domain and hosting plan and installed prestashop using softaculous in to the root folder. All good

Now, we have registered new domains, and each new domains goes in to a subfolder in the root. We install software and backup and all is good

But the original domain backup is now very large - why?

because it backups up ALL the other domains at the same time

So be clearer,

Root : Graphskill.com
sub folders: graphskill.co.uk, u-bolts-r-us, shackles-r-us etc

When softaculous backs up graphskill.co.uk in it's own subfolder, just .co.uk gets backed up

BUT

When softaculous backs up graphskill.com, it backs com up but also backss up all the other domains

Any thoughts? I dont think there is any way around this, but it can mean that the backup of the main domain will get too large and stall

Hi,

Sir at the moment when you take a backup of the main domain it will backup all the sub directories.

We are working on the solution to backup only the files related to installation on the root domain and will add it soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

That is great news, i don't suppose it is in release 4.4.5 on 7th April?

I don't suppose you can give an approximate time scale?

Hi,

We are beta testing the fix and will launch it with the next version of Softaculous.

That is great news. Will it work on current installations or just new installations?

How do we restrict the speed of backups? I have a simple phpList installation, still just in testing stage, and automatic backups hit 3072 IOPS every time it runs. That's an unreasonable resource usage for a simple backup script...

This is the crontab that was automatically created:
19 23 * * * /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/php /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/cli.php --backup --auto=1 --insid=55_49180

artifice,

We have the backup script designed in such a way that it should not consume more than 2-3 mb ram in given second and hence should not consume much IO.

I would be happy to debug this, however we will need root access to your server to debug this. You can open a support ticket with us with the root details and we will check this for you :

I don't know what to say other than it pushes 3072 IOPS every time it runs. This particular test installation is on a shared hosting plan so I don't have root access to the machine, but I can follow up with the host themselves and see if they would be willing to work on it with you.

I'm not sure how memory usage relates to IOPS though.. IOPS is more of a speed throttling issue rather than a memory usage issue.

Hi,

The backup process should not increase the IOPS as well.

Can you please check if there is any other script on your server scheduled to run at the same time which could be causing the IOPS to increase ?

If you can ask your host to open a support ticket with us we can investigate this further.

It's the only cron job running at that hour.
I'll contact my host and see if they're willing to do that, thanks.

I set up an automatic backup when I created my website with Wordpress last autumn.
Now I get an error message every day:
You have reached the maximum number of (<b>5</b>) backups allowed. Please delete unwanted backups to be able to take a new backup.

Myt backup command is generated and looks correct:
/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/php /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/cli.php --backup --auto=1 --insid=26_58130
I've looked in the manual for adding automatic backup, and also there it looks correct.

Hi,

It looks like you have reached the maximum backups allowed for your account.

Can you please login to your cPanel -> Softaculous -> Backups and check if you have already used maximum backups allowed and if possible can you delete unwanted backups and see if you still face the issue.

I've of course reached the max number of 5, that's why i get the error message.
I didn't find anything about backup at Softaculous, but at Softaculous - Wordpress.
It's configured with Backup rotation 5, which didn't work.
I found 6 backups, which might be the reason for the problem, so I've removed two of them.
Hopefully that helps.
