Unzipping the files......Error unzipping......Continuing

FluxBB

Deleting previous files......
Fetching Latest File......Could not SAVE latest file......Continuing

iQDesk
Software not found.....Needs Update
Deleting previous files......
Fetching Latest File......Could not SAVE latest file......Continuing

From Softaculous Cron Jobs

I just ran the Software update through WHM and all worked but for Xoops - which is still giving errors (after trying twice to install):
Xoops

        Software not found.....Needs Update
Deleting previous files......
Fetching Latest File......Saved the Latest File
Unzipping the files......Error unzipping......Continuing

This has happened to me a couple of  times before - each time requiring support to come in and fix (eg Wordpress MU). What is the issue ?

cheers

Jim

Had the same unzip error as ozace - except it was with Moodle.

The above tip worked great! Thanks Alons.

Jeff

I think this bug is still there...
Everyday I check for new updates there and manually run the cron job from root to be sure I immediately get the update (and also because I have personal infos in info.xml files).
When there are many updates to do , like today (worpress, lazarus, smarty), some of them fail.
I see that failed updates have added a zip file in var/softaculous ans deleted the directory. Today I had lazarus.zip and wp.zip, and wp and lazarus directories had been deleted.
I have to run the cron job 4 times today to update all scripts. I know what to do when this happens, so it's not a big deal, but I think this bug should be corrected.
In fact on my server it happens almost every time I run the cron.php in command line so I have to check that all updates are really there.

Hi,

Sir, what is the bandwidth connection of your server.
If you submit a ticket we will check it on your server to see this.

I tried this on so many of our servers and its working fine. We had also added additional mirrors to take care of so much load.

The server is supposed to have a maximum of 100 Mbt/s and I am really far from using this.
For instance today, I have an incoming trafic average of 70kb/s (max 875 kt/s)
Today's outgoing trafic average 1007 kbt/s (Max 5423 kbt/s)
Weekly, monthly and annual averages are roughly the same.

WhenI run cron.php it's quite fast to be done.

This issue is definitely still present.  I get it all the time where some apps update fine, and others fail.  Run the cron job again and some that failed will succeed while others still fail.  Running it from the web interface does the same exact thing.  Some will fail and running it again and again and again, I can eventually get them all updated.  My error is slightly different though, and my control panel is H-sphere if it makes a difference.

        Software not found.....Needs Update
Deleting previous files......
Fetching Latest File......Could not SAVE latest file......Continuing

It fails to save one time, but works the next or on other apps works fine in the same run.  My server is in a colo rack connected to a full dedicated 1Gbps connection so bandwidth is not an issue.  Disk space is also not an issue as /var is a dedicated partition with only 2G of 21G used on average at any time.

This has been going on for quite some time, and quite annoying since the failure leaves the software that failed completely missing as the previous version is removed before the new file is downloaded (or at least it appears that way).  The old version should not be removed if the download of the new version fails so at least there is a working version still on the server.

Thanks,
Ron

Unfortunately, I do not wish to give root access to my server to someone else.  My server's SSH access is very restricted for security reasons, and I do not care to open up that access to 3rd parties.

This should be fairly easy to duplicate on your own test server though.  It happens just about every time there is an application update on my server.

I'll even run any tests or log any data you wish, if you send me instructions.  I just don't give 3rd parties free run of my servers unless there is a legal liability agreement in place should they cause harm to my server while access it.

I would be interested to know the direct URL locations of the update downloads.  It would be interesting to see the download response outside the script.  I have a theory that your server where the downloads are being pulled from isn't responding correctly intermittently.

Hi,

We could not reproduce this error on our servers. We are trying to debug the reason for this. We will check it and if there are any issues we will fix them ASAP.

Hi,

We have added new Mirrors yesterday so you should not face this issue anymore. The CRON should download the packages and if it does not please let us know we will definitely check it.

Is there a list of your mirrors anywhere?  That may well be the issue.  If you move/change your mirrors, then people who only allow outbound connections to certain servers will need to update their firewalls.

Hi,

Sir the IPs might change as our Mirrors are Load balancing but our Hostname will be the same.
Please allow the access to the following Hostname:
*.softaculous.com

I don't know of any firewalls that will take *.softaculous.com as a valid entry.  The 3rd level at least has to be something specific so it can do resolution on it.  I've opened it to www.softaculous.com since I don't know of any other name to use.  It appears to work at least for getting most the updates, but some still fail.

I've been watching my firewall logs, and I don't see it blocking anything so the issue appears to be somewhere else.  It upgraded to 4.0 successfully without issue, but the individual package updates still have random failures.

I don't know about anyone else's firewall, but resolving *.softaculous.com is impossible for most systems.  How does it know what 3rd level names exist?  That is unless you run an unsecure DNS server for your domain that allows a zone transfer to everyone so they can see all your host names.  DNS doesn't work like the "glob" function in a terminal shell.

Regardless, I have added all those specific names listed including www to my firewall, and the failure still occurs randomly.  The Concrete update failed today multiple times, while others succeeded.  Again it is not just the cron job, this happens when using the web interface too for updates.

We continue to have this issue too. Even after disabling the firewall completely, softaculous still cannot download any updates. Running the latest version of softaculous 4.1.7

Hi,

This could be due to Safe Mode enabled or Openbase Dir enabled. I have replied to your ticket please provide access to one of your server we will look into this.

Wow since 2009 until 2012 today, this has continued to be the single issue with Softaculous that has never been fixed ever. Very frustrating! Please make it work once and for all! Why is it so hard?? And why do you need to have root access all the time in order to fix it? Can't you give us the troubleshooting steps? Surely it cannot be THAT complicated to make it work or even to troubleshoot? How about LOGGING at least to give us all some ideas why it failed?

Please understand that giving out root SHOULD NOT be the default method for people to let you troubleshoot issues.

I asked Softaculous tech to fix and even gave root access to an unused box. Somehow without doing anything (or so they claimed), it was "Fixed" - yes I verified it. But some 12 hours later, downloading updates stopped working again.

FRUSTRATED. Please give us more details on how to fix it WITHOUT asking for root access!

Hi,

The issue is only on a few servers with custom configurations. There are several reasons for this issue :
1. Firewall not allowing to download the scripts
2. Openbase dir restriction
3. Safe Mode enabled

The issue on your server was due to the CRON command used by Softaculous. I have changed it on the server for which you provided root details and the instructions are emailed to you to fix this on other servers.

The reason why we need root access to the servers is because if we have root access we can debug and resolve the issue faster.

We are adding the logs in the next version so that users can find the reason for an issue in logs.

Sorry but it was not the firewall. I tried disabling the firewall completely and it still didn't work.

It is not openbasedir / safemode. The command was being executed with  -d open_basedir=/ -d safe_mode=0 -d disable_functions="" as per your prescribed installation guide and it still wasn't working.

You failed to mention that you installed a different version of "comp" and that's what really fixed it. Not any of the reasons you listed above. In fact, on the box that you have access to, you actually removed those options, which is contrary to what you were saying.

In any case, whatever you did, it now works (and hopefully stays that way). Thank you for fixing it. I just wished that things were communicated better and more clearly. I had to try and figure out myself what had changed. We aren't trying to steal all your secrets - we just want a functioning, working piece of software that we paid for, without us having to actually dig around and debug it.

I hope this patch will be included in the future version so that we don't have to have these hassles again.

Thanks again.

Hi,

Sir you just need to reinstall Softaculous on your servers and then add the CRON to your Crontab. We have modified the installer to work correctly on Hsphere FreeBSD. This will also work fine in future versions of Softaculous.

The issue was due to open_basedir=/ due to this the Curl fails to redirect. We have changed it to open_basedir="" which works fine on FreeBSD servers.

Please let us know if you still face the issue.
