this is a complex issue.

Are you a Premium user?
You can wait here support of Webuzo.
Is your Exim updated?
Have you customized Exim?

A try can be unistall your Exim (all customization in Exim will be lost) than reinstall so in this case the last Exim version is installed... and you can check if the issue is resolved, if not... Webuzo Team should assist you to fix this common issue.

After you updated Exim or are you new in this Webuzo install?

Open source, web and security passionate 		wapumts here is better Webuzo help you with that.
You cannot send email from Webuzo... maybe you are using Squirrelmail integrated into webuzo.

For use SMTP I think you needs valid certificate or you get warn and you can have issue maybe.
If your server is not managed you should know how to set SMTP.
You can use google for help you on understand how to setup SMTP.
