We use Softaculous through CPanel on our host server and are very happy with it.Our current dilemma is while using Joomla to upgrade from version 2.5.6 up to the recommended 3.3.6.Even though we were advised on the joomla forum to use the manual upgrade feature to get Softaculous to actually accept the new version designation we are not able to perform a full restore (on any of our sites) as it is still somehow seeing the version as the 2.5 series, not series 3.We are not willing to update the versions until we can successfully restore , for obvious reason. We are testing on a backup of the manually modified 3.36 version. Tested two different small sites in case one was flawed.See attached screen shot of the window and the errors.Appreciate your help in resolving this.

Hi Nemo10,

Looking at the error message it looks like the file mentioned is write protected i.e. Softaculous is unable to overwrite this file from the backup.

Can you please change the permission of this file to 0644 and try to restore again ?

Let us know if you still face the issue.

Oh, sorry, knew about that and it is 644. Is the same on any installation we are concerned about.

Hi,

You are checking the permission of the wrong file.

Please check the permission of the file mentioned in the error message which is in the templates/mistermike3_02/index.php

Yup.. goofed, didn't I?  Wring file, similar enough to confuse my early morning senses. OK, checked the 3.03 file and it WAS protected. so I then tried a restore and it came up with another. fixed that then ran again.. another /configuration.php and fixed that.. then BINGO.. completely restored! Well, that WAS interesting, and a bit of a worry, but it's easy to see I am not great at this sort of thing. I really appreciate your help, and patience.

Yes, perfectly.. :D   Thank you for you assistance in achieving that result. In hindsight we realise that we should have removed certain templates from the 2.5 series before doing the upgrade. We have found that the upgrade replaces them with proper permissions and everything works fine all the way. Oh, well.. two years of serenity ahead until version 4  is made current.. Then...
