Given the the advice to new WHMCS users is to rename their whmcs and admin directories to help prevent hacking, is there a way to tell sofaculous this for the purposes of running the upgrade script? They are not editable fields in the Edit Installation Details pane.

Also the cron job url is listed incorrectly.

Hi,

While upgrading WHMCS via Softaculous you will be asked for your admin folder. You can fill in the correct admin folder there and Softaculous will update the records.

Regarding the CRON job url you will have to update the .softaculous/installations.php file manually. However since this file contains a PHP serialized array we do NOT RECOMMEND editing this file manually as it can break the file.

You can open a support ticket with us with access to your control panel and we will edit it for you :

Thank you Brijesh. I updated this install of WHMCS manually this time, and now that I have done that I will likely continue to do it that way.

Is there any likelihood that future Softaculous releases will address the cron job url issue?

I suppose what I am really saying with this post is that the offer to automatically upgrade a particular installation using Softaculous is great, if it can actually do that. If one has to tweak this or that first, especially if it is an installation of an application one is not particularly familiar with, then it almost becomes worthwhile to do the manual upgrade just to learn how.

Interestingly (to me) when I did the manual update, Softaculous did recognise that this had occured and revised its estimation of the WHMCS version. It is a pity it cannot recognise the other pertinent values too.

You can upgrade WHMCS via Softaculous as well. You just need to pass the admin directory while upgrading your installation.

Can you please let us know what issue is it exacly ? Did you change the CRON job URL after installing via Softaculous ?

While installing WHMCS via Softaculous there is an option to choose the admin directory and if you choose it here Softaculous will store the correct admin directory in its records. If you edit it manually after completing the installation via Softaculous you will have to update the Softaculous records once which you can do while upgrading.
