Hi there - firstly apologies if this is something obvious.

I need to wipe my hard drive so would like to back up all my sites that I'm running locally using Ampps including the Ampps configuration and the SQL databases associated with each site.

All my sites are currently in a dropbox folder and I used a symlink to set this up.

Basically, how do I wipe my computer and cause the least amount of work to get everything running again?

Very much appreciated!!

M

You need to take backup of your following folders from your Ampps install directory
1) mysql
2) www
3) private

Thanks REX_A

Couple of questions:

I actually have a symlink set up so I guess its just the www folder in my dropbox that I need.

With the mySQL folder, I have one in dropbox and one in applications/ampps/. I tried renaming both of these to see if they broke a local Wordpress site running through ampps. The site still worked even though I renamed both folders. Could it be that the databases are actually held elsewhere?

What about the actual configuration of Ammps? I have the symlink set up and a few sites running. Do I need to copy any config files?

Finally - in theory then, I can erase my hard disk, re-install ampps and then copy these folders directly over the old ones, set up a symlink. Is there also a "hosts" file that I need to copy as I am running more than one site?

Sorry for all the questions!

Hi,
I am guessing you are using AMPPS on MAC.
Please take backup of below mentioned directories

1) mysql

2) www

3) private

4)var
5)ampps

Also take backup of your "hosts" file

Try to rename "var" folder and check  if it breaks your local Wordpress site running through ampps

Thanks again.

Yes sorry I should have given a bit more info about my setup:

I'm on a mac
I'm using the enduser panel to add new domains so that I can host multiple site
My sites are all in dropbox folder and I'm using a symlink to point to it

http://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=5285

Renaming that VAR file does indeed break the database connection.

I'll take a backup of the files and folders that you mention. I'll then erase my hard drive, re-install ampps, re-create the symlink and paste my backups over the newly installed files and folders.

Do you think that's all I'll need to do?

Thanks again for your help!

Yes. Have made any changes to any configuration file. If yes than take backup of "conf" folder and if not than you can erase your hard drive.

I haven't made any direct changes to the conf file. Does the enduser panel make any changes though when I add domains?

hopefully final question! - thanks!

Changes are made in php conf file when you enable certain extension. I will suggest you to take backup of "conf" folder before you erase your hard drive
