Just installed AMPPS ver 1.7 (build April 6/2012) - Apache does not start
Platform: win 7 64-bit SP1
Clicking on Apache -> Start: does not start ApacheThere is no Apache log fileDid not modified anything in the config file yet
What is very confusing is the AMPPS Control Center:Apache section --> Start button is activewhile the control panel below section displays:
C:/Applic/Web/Ampps

Apache Started

MySql Started

Opening a browser and with "http://localhost/" in URL  the return is:
Could not connect to remote server
Check that the address is spelled correctly, or try searching for the site.

Double-clicking on Apache Start or closing the Control Center and re-starting does not correct the problem. MySql is started.
Suggestions are welcomed. Thanks.

Check your Application Event Log, was getting same error, turned out OS was missing Visual C++ 2008 redist, had 2005 and 2010 on, but php5apache2_2.dll requires 2008

Hi,

We have replied to this ticket. Port conflict is the problem.

Hi,

It means other Application is using port 80 to listen and AMPPS Apache won't start unless port 80 is free. (Though we can change the port in AMPPS, but we don't recommend.)

To check which Application is using port 80, follow the details below :

Open command prompt(start -> run -> cmd) and type the following command :
C:\> netstat -aon | findstr 0.0:80

Last column of the output is the PID of the application using port 80.

You can find the application name in Task Manager. Go to Process Tab then in Menu Bar of Task Manager go to View -> Select Column -> Check "PID" and press Ok. Search for the PID in the list(Click Below "Show processes from all users" in case if you don't find the PID), corresponding process is the application which is using port 80. Stop or Uninstall it to make your AMPPS Apache work.

Please let us know if you still face the issue.

I am having he same apache problem too. the error i get when I start Apache is: [Apache]    Attempting to start Apache app...
[Apache]    Status change detected: running
[Apache]    Status change detected: stopped
[Apache]    Error: Apache shutdown unexpectedly.
[
Apache]    This may be due to a blocked port, missing dependencies,
[Apache]    improper privileges, a crash, or a shutdown by another method.
[Apache]    Check the "/xampp/apache/logs/error.log" file
[Apache]    and the Windows Event Viewer for more clues the error.log file is empty cant find anything in the event vowere except for schannel error - but i think that is unconnected. I have checked port 80, the port is is use by ID 4, which is "system". I am on Win XP SP2 I would welcome your advice and help thanks marc

Hi,

I think you are using XAMPP. We won't be able to help you much with xampp, contact xampp support instead.

BTW, PID 4 "system" is a Windows service. It can be IIS, Webclient or Web Deployment Agent Service.
