To clarify, a paid license is required for only a small number of applications available through Softaculous, WHMCS being one of them. Around 99% of the applications in our library are open-source and free to use.

For applications like WHMCS that require a paid license, you would need to contact their team directly for a trial or licensing-related queries. Softaculous is an auto-installer that helps you install and manage applications; licensing, pricing, and trial availability are controlled by the respective application vendors.

Similarly, when an application is not updated in Softaculous, it is generally because the vendor has not released a new version for us to integrate. We can only provide updates when they are made available by the respective developers.

On the positive side, Softaculous offers hundreds of applications, the vast majority of which are free and open-source, and is used by millions of users worldwide.

Moral of the story: You have to read everything in the description to see if a license key is required to install the product, be repaired to pay for a subscription prior to install, or have spare time to waist before using Softaculous.

ALSO: Be sure to LOOK AT THE RELEASE DATE of every app you're considering. MANY have not been updated in nearly a decade.

By the way, I've used Softaculous to install some other apps and nothing came of any of them.

Hoping this post will save someone of time.

I've informed Bluehost of this as well. Maybe Bluehost will stop seeing Softaculous as a value add for their customers and begin seeing it as the time suck that it is.
