Topic : Use above selected files/folders for Backup

Posted By: jbrogaard on January 13, 2019, 11:14 am
Hi, the two options in the Edit Installation Details (enduser):
* Select additional files/folders* Use above selected files/folders for Backup
seem to conflict. If I select a file and choose No does the file get included in a backup? Why should I select files if they are not backed up?
Thanks for your time.

Hi,

By default the full public_html folder will be backed up when your installation is in document root.

If you select No the backup option, the "Selected files" are used for Clone Staging etc however the backup is done for complete folder. The selected files are are used for backups only when you select "Yes" for Backup option only the selected files and the default files of your installation package are backed up.

Hi, thanks for replying.
Since it's very important to set up the settings correctly in case of the need for backup, I've tried to understand the help pop-ups in the interface and your answer.

Is this then correctly understood ;)

"Select additional files/folders": This is for associating additional files/folders to the backup. What ever is selected here will be backed up if...

"Use above selected files/folders for Backup":

YES - the selected files/folders will be backed up (default no sub-domains) and included in cloning and staging processes.

NO - the selected files/folders will NOT be backed up  (default no sub-domains).
BUT, the selected files/folders will then only be included in cloning and staging processes.
In other words, you should only select files/folders if you want them either to be in your future backups/clones/stages or in your clones/stages.

I wonder if above description is right?
Many thanks again.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

Yes the above description is right.

1. If you do not select the files :

During Clone and Remove installation only the files that were unzipped by Softaculous will be cloned/removed.

Backup utility will backup all the additional files in public_html folder (excluding sub-domains/addon-domains)

2. If you select the files AND the "Use above selected files/folders for Backup" option is No :

The files that were unzipped by Softaculous along with the additional files you selected will be cloned/removed.

Backup utility will backup all the additional files in public_html folder (excluding sub-domains/addon-domains)

3. If you select the files AND the "Use above selected files/folders for Backup" option is Yes :

The files that were unzipped by Softaculous along with the additional files you selected will be cloned/removed.

Backup utility will backup the files that were unzipped by Softaculous along with the additional files you selected.

Do let us know if you have any questions.

I would like to add a folder in my document root, but not all the folders are listed. Is there a configuration file to increase the number of folders listed?

Sorry for the delay in response.
At the moment this is not possible. We list only the files/folders upto 1 level.

Is there a way to rename the folders so the desired folder to back up is listed?

Hi,

If it is within 1 level of the root directory of your site it will be listed. If that directory is within another folder it will not be listed.

So that is my problem. I use Namecheap.com. The attached two screen-prints show several folders in my root directory, yet Softaculous only shows two folders. I want the /data folder backed up, not the application folder.

Hi,

The files/folders that are a part of the app you installed will be backed up and cannot be removed from the backups list. Only the additional files/folders which are not a part of the application can be selected to backup or not backup.
