I am having a hard time with this installer.  I have Ubuntu 18.04 because for some reason this software will not install on Ubuntu 20.04  The Installer works very well for most of the apps.  But it can not detect the correct version of PHP that I'm running.  I don't know where it is pulling the version info from but it's not pulling it from php -v.  I have 7.4.21 it is seeing 7.2.24-0ubuntu0.18.04.8.  I have no idea how to get around this and google searches show this is a recurrent problem going back nearly a decade.  I've read where you change settings in the files located in the hooks directory.

I've created a pre_install.php that is supposedly trying to force the system to see the version you input there.  That didn't work

There was something else that said to rename softaculous_filter.txt to filter.php and this has a command of <?php.  I did that and it still doesn't work.  I'll occassionally see a response saying some patch was released.  Most people I see using this are using Cpanel, I'm using a free one called Vesta Panel.  I paid for the package to get all the apps, thank god it was only $10, half of this stuff won't install because it can't see the correct version of PHP?

I'm doing this on VMware and I'm having to take snapshots all the time.  If I were to go back to prior to installing Vesta Control Panel and upgraded to the latest version of PHP THEN installed Vesta, would it see that version?  This seems to be a major bug, anytime a new version of PHP comes out, you can't inform softaculous that the new version of PHP came out.  This has apparently been a recurrent ongoing problem going as far back as 2009 at least.  Why is this still a bug 12 years later and what is the fix?  I can't find any actual solutions online that work.

Does this forum have any activity at all?  How is it I'm getting no responses to an issue that is widespread online with no working solutions with the rare occassion that some dev responds with a specific patch?  Why can't this software read the correct version of PHP?

I found this guide and followed most of it

Well it's a guide I found on Vesta CP forum that I can't share because the activity on this forum is so infrequent, I still have new user status.  Are there even mods for this forum?

Now I'm not getting the php version error, now it's saying it needs things like bcmath, zip, gd, etc.  When I go get them from shell, I have the latest versions of each one that this software can not find.

There has to be a way to fix this, otherwise why would your catalog have so many apps that can't be installed due to php issues.
