Topic : Character Encoding

Posted By: matsaukeo on April 13, 2014, 4:04 pm
Hi there,

I'm getting strange characters in local environment but not on live hosted server.

I can change my files in my editor from "utf8 without bom" to "utf8" but then the characters would return when I upload to the live server.

The same site hosted locally on my windows with xammp and the live server don't have the issue so I think there must be a setting somewhere to serve the pages as something but I can't find it - to be honest my knowledge of servers are limited.

I'd appreciate any help or pointer on this. I've typed "encoding" into the wiki and the forum but no joy.

Thanks!!

Hi,

Are you facing this issue with your website or with any text in Softaculous ?

Hi - thanks for the reply.

I've looked at the control panel (where I add domains etc) and can't see any weird characters so think it's just the website.

Is this a configuration setting somewhere?

Cheers

Hi,

Sir I mean are you using WordPress, Joomla or any other script installed via Softaculous ?

Ah got it sorry!

I've copied the wordpress files from another server and then imported the database using phpmyadmin that came installed with Ammps.

Basically the site is a clone of something that is already existing.

Does that make sense? I'm afraid that the server side of things isn't really my strong point - I'm using Ammps simply as a way of locally developing websites.

Thanks for your continued help (and patience!)
