I manually overwrote newer Joomla 2.5.7 files over an existing (Softaculous) 2.5.6 installation.  Site broke (both public and admin).
Error: Fatal error:  require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/mb/public_html/includes/framework.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/mb/public_html/index.php on line [b]21

I've confirmed that the framework.php file is missing.

Is it a no-no to manually update a Softaculous installation?  What is the option to upgrade?  How can I revert/fix?

Thanks

Richard

Hi,

Sir you can upgrade a Softaculous installation manually but it seems that you missed something while upgrading. You may refer to the following guide on how to Upgrade an installation :

Thanks for the response, but when I mean "manual upgrade' I am not referring to using the Softaculous utility to do the upgrade.  Rather I am referring to the direct, manual uploading and overwriting of files via FTP.  Does this screw up the Softaculous installation?  Once you use Softaculous does this mean all updates have to be done using Softaculous?

Hi,

Sir there is no restriction to manual upgrade. You can upgrade manually as well. But you can upgrade through Softaculous easily.
