Softaculous

Topic : Staging feature

I would like to use Softaculos but I've seen this post -> reddit.com/r/Wordpress/comments/14dm7s6/deleting_softaculous_staging_site_killed_my_real/

I'd need some clarifications if possible.

If I remove the staging site, how or will this affect my live site as it happened to the reddit user from above? Or should it not happen except in some scenarios and what will they be?

Thanks

Hi,

The staging and live sites are independent i.e. they have independent database and files so removing staging site should not affect the live site.

In rare case if the database credentials or path of your WordPress installation was changed manually but the Softaculous records were not updated this could happen. Softaculous will delete the files and database as per the Softaculous records which you can find from the Edit Installation page in Softaculous :

So if I edit the database credentials of a staging site and then delete the staging site, Softaculous will also remove the live site? Why is that keeping into account that as you said, both sites have different databases? I don't understand that.
The same question I have in case of altering the path of the Wordpress installation no matter that I do it for the staging or the live site. Is not there a security mechanism in place so these wrong removals could not happen so easily?

Thanks again!
