Hi guys .. Totally new to Softa..

I can install Joomla at my host that use Softa.. but because i have already public_html p_h holding my Joomla 3.7.5 with lots of extensions, i install in a sub folder within p_h. With this i can update to 3.8 at the Jm backend of the new instance of Jm.

I actually wanted Softa. to manage my existing p_h because i am having difficulty update jm to 3.8 at the current p_h backend.

Question:
Can i ask Softa.. to manage my existing p_h with all its extensions installed?  If not is there a workaround.  Thanks first.

Hi,

Sure you can import your existing Joomla installation to Softaculous using the following guide :
http://www.softaculous.com/docs/How_to_Import_an_Installation

Once you import Joomla you can then update, backup, etc that installation via Softaculous.

We recommend to perform a backup of your installation before upgrading.

Do let us know if you face any issues.

Hi,

When you import an installation to Softaculous it will just update the Softaculous records with the installation details (URL, path, database details, etc) i.e. there is an installation.

So when you want to upgrade to backup your installation Softaculous has the details required to perform that action.

Also when you import an installation it will not make any changes to your installation. It will just update Softaculous files with the installation details.

If your installation is in the "public_html" directory you have to leave the "Directory" field blank. If you had your installation in "public_html/mysite" directory for example in that case you would have to fill the "Directory" field as "mysite".

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the crystal clear explanation on "import".  I had imagined what you said as its meaning; directing my website details to Softa.. only, thus will not affect the website at all.

Once that done, at the backEnd of joomla i will be able to upgrade using the update button within this backEnd.  I have tested this when i did a clean installation at a sub folder under public_html.  I have since then delete this installation thus there is no record in Softa.

Hence there is still a bit concern why you caution me to backup which i will do for double protection.

Please give me an nod if i got it right, then i log in via heliohost to try.  Kind Regards.

Brijesh dost, 2 more questions

In the Softaculous interface when i log in to my host using index.live.php, after the "import" click, i see either from remote or local server.  I presume i use local server and since my existing installation is in public_html, i just next click import as my domain name is already there.

Another separate question, does Hostgator use your services?  I can log in to my hostgator cpanel using /softaculous/index.live.php but i can get to the "import" button.  The interface is different from heliohost.  Any advice?  :??:

Hi,

You need to select local server since the installation is on the same server and then select your domain name and then click on Import.

This will import your joomla installation.

Regarding the different interface in HostGator and HelioHost, we provide customization option for Softaculous. Hence you see different interface for both the host.

Do let us know if you have any other query.

Once you have imported your installation to Softaculous you will be able to upgrade the installation using the Softaculous interface. You can refer to the following guide :
https://www.softaculous.com/docs/How_to_upgrade_installations

The upgrades do work correctly and are tested on several servers before releasing the update. I just mentioned it for safety.

One more question where does the backup go to?

The backup goes to your server in the /softaculous_backups folder in your home directory.

You can also download the backup file on your local machine from the backups page.

Hi,

You can find the database backup file named 'softsql.sql' in your backup file after untaring the backup file.

Please check and let us know if you need any further information.
