Hi,

Restore operations can failed because of, for example errrors like this :
File /home/kynao/public_html/php.ini already exists and is write protected

and it can happen on numerous files so quite some lost of time renaming or deleting file and start over again, not to mention softaculous restore some of these files, fail on others so we have to take into account all the files from start...

Can't we have an overwrite option as the subject is to restore everything anyway ?

Hi,

We will try to make some changes to our code to change the permissions by itself if the owner of the file is the same as the user.

We will see if we can push this in the next version of Softaculous.

Hello, if I correctly read this, this is functionality that would be greatly appreciated.

For instance, we lock down .htaccess as 404 permissions. A restoration will fail due to that file not being writable. So, we run the restore and change the permissions on each failure. Eventually we get the restoration. The final restoration has the original 404 permissions and we are fine with that.

Since from a developer and administrator standpoint, softaculous is very convenient for taking database and file snapshots and restorations are equally easy, this would smooth out workflow and make restorations less trial and error prone.

We look forward to this functionality when it can be accomplished.

Thanks!

Has this been fixed? We encountered this issue just now (January 2017)

Hi,

We evaluated this but Softaculous runs as a user in the control panel and if the user does not have write access to a particular file it is not possible to even chmod the file hence you will have to manually make the file writable and then start the restore process again.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
