Softaculous

Topic : Three feature ideas!

Posted By: JonathanAkaJD on April 15, 2011, 12:02 am
Ok here are three features i think would be very helpful and would love to see added into a future release of Softaculous if possible.

First feature:
A feature in the ROOT Softaculous Panel in WHM that would allow the Server Administartor to update a out dated script a client has installed with Softaculous to the latest version available in Softaculous.

Second feature:
A feature in the ROOT Softaculous Panel in WHM that would allow the Server Administrator to uninstall a script a client has installed with Softaculous.

Third feature:
Add the Educational, Frameworks, ERP and JavaScript Libraries categories to the Reorder Software Categories in the ROOT Softaculous Panel in WHM?

Well there's my three feature ideas hope to see one of them if not all in future releases.

Hi,

1st one is very risky and can cause conflicts with users if they have modified the files.

2nd one can be implemented and we have added it to the TODOs

I have a question for your response Alons and also a additional feature request.

Response to the first feature:
1st one is very risky and can cause conflicts with users if they have modified the files.

My question for your response to the first feature:
Would a update script feature in the ROOT Softaculous Panel in WHM not be capable of updating the script in the same way it's updated in the Softaculous Panel in cPanel that clients use to install/upgrade/backup scripts? If it's safe to upgrade from the Softaculous Panel in the clients cPanel would it not be just as safe using the same method but in the ROOT Softaculous Panel in WHM?

Additional feature request:
Could the Educational, Frameworks, ERP and JavaScript Libraries
categories be added to the Reorder Software Categories in the ROOT
Softaculous Panel in WHM?

Also i'm very glad to hear the second feature could be added to the TODO list!

Hi,

1) In many upgrades attention has to be given to the scripts upgradation utility. it may require Admin Password and stuff like that which you wont have.

2) Educational, Frameworks, ERP are already there in Reorder.

How about the ability for the user to mark it as already being updated, such as if they had performed the operation in the back end of wordpress. Couldn't that simply update the label of which version the user is currently using?

Bump this idea.

Was just about to post a suggestion for it. I often update using the backend of the script itself particularly with Wordpress. If a way to mark the script as upgraded was added it could definitely cut down some work.

the problem with this is if a client has a template for the script, so you decide his script is outdated so you update the script.
the client has a template that does not work with the updatesd version, so you have just brought down your clients site by updating the script.

Do you think your client would be happy?

"First feature:

Installatron has this and is very handy.  Clients need to keep scripts updated or their site can be hacked. Server security out weighs if the client fails to update their scripts and have modified them.  This is the one feature Softaculous is lacking and the reason we are considering converting all installations over to Installatron.  Decision should be left up to the server admin.

Hi,

Sir we have this in out todo list. We are re-architecturing Softaculous to add this functionality and we have to also re-structure the script packages for this hence, it is taking time.
You should expect this soon.

Webuzo - Multi User Hosting Control Panel
AMPPS - Best WordPress/PHP/MySQL development tool

i currently have an Openc art site which is busy and provides good revenue, this has a cutom template which i currently not compatible with the currently version of Softaculous, so if i were to use this feature 1 on this site then it would bring my site down and lose me income.
the people i got the themes from are working on a set of new updates themes, so as soon as they have done this i will then update to currently Softaculous version.
