Hello All!

Does anyone have any experience on running 'apt-get dist-upgrade' or update the OS on Proxmox while on production? We have some concerns that this will break Virtualizor somehow since it updates some of the modules that Virtualizor use to function.

We want to update the server just to keep up with the new security patches.

Thank you!

Virtualizor uses its own stack of PHP, mysql and Webserver, at least with these it should not interfere. We do use CentOS as the base for Virtualizor and no OS update ever has interfered with the operation of Virtualizor.

Thanks for the reply!

Noted, before we update. Is there any way to bulk set the backup location all of the VPS used by our 'Cloud account' clients? Our normal VPS has a backup location already via the plans we have made.

With a little sql work you could change the values directly in the vps
table.Your backup plans are stored in the "backup_plan" table and in the
"vps" table there is a row "bpid" where the backup plan this vps shoud
use is noted.

For example if you want your cloud user to use backup plan 61, then you should set the corresponding vps "bpid" row to 61.
You still need to know which vps are affected.

thanks for the tip on 'bpid'! I've set all of the client's VPS to the backup plan we've set. We're going to update the OS this weekend, after all of the VPS has been successfully backed up.

don't do it on live server before you test it on a test server first.

how can we test it?

what I have in mind right now is;

1. Install the latest Proxmox 5.x on a new server (not 6 since the production is on 5.x and we’re going to update to the latest available for 5.x)
2. Install Virtualizor on the new server
3. Restore all/some of the VPS from the backup
4. See if it runs just fine?
