The section of the .htaccess file you shared is responsible for setting up the basic authentication (the username and password prompt when accessing the site). To disable the password protection, remove or comment out this block of code:

# require valid-user

To comment out the lines, add # at the beginning of each line. To get the clean url one needs to configure a server which points to a public directory. Many of our users are on shared hosting environment and this is not possible there.

You can configure your server and manually install the typo using the following guide.
