Topic : How long to set up on 'First Run of AMPPS'

Posted By: robinson_pj on September 12, 2014, 6:27 pm
I have downloaded AMPPS this afternoon, and installed it on a 'Server drive' partition on a second HDD in my Intel Quad 2.33GHz, with 4GB memory, running Windows Vista + Service Pack2 as 32 bit OS.
My internet connection is via a USB 'dongle' which works fine normally.
I reached the end of installation and the 'Set up completed' dialog appeared. On finishing, I proceeded to launch AMPPS and the Softaculous AMPPS Control Center dialog appeared, with MySQL launched and and the green 'Start' button for Apache illuminated.
Noting your install wiki instruction 'After Installing AMPPS, open path/to/Ampps/Ampps.exe, this will take some time as it is setting up AMPPS for your Windows.', I opened the .exe and (presumably) left the program running. My Windows task manager shows CPU usage has been between 75% and 90+% for all that time, and I have had the program running for about an hour.
My questions are:
1. How do I know it's actually doing something (ie setting up AMPPS)?
2. How long should the set up process take? I have plenty of disk space available on my PC
3. I know MySQL is working as I have opened up the database within the MySQL workbench, but I have not received any messages regarding Apache set-up failure, nor can I click on the green Apache start icon to set Apache off running.

I have had previous installations of WAMP servers on this machine, but these are all disabled, uninstalled and are not running.

Thanks for your help

Following on... I attempted to run Apache from the command line, but got an error to say that the files could not be found on my disk 'E:\Program files\AMPPS\..'. I had installed the package on drive H:\Program files\AMPPS\...' (my server disk). Uninstalling from H: and reinstalling to E: works and AMPPS now appears to work. Could I install the server to H: though or is there a predefined limited set of drives that AMPPS installs to?

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Please download the Ampps again from our website. And install Ampps on your desired location.

Thanks for the quick response. I've re-downloaded the source file, and attempted to install the server on a number of drives, all of which have been successful.
