 Any update please, has this began production?

After waiting for years now and searching others replies it appears that it has been a while since your team has said it was coming.

Installatron has this feature but not yet to Google drive.

Otherwise can you provide a 3rd party solution?

I was looking to move all my sites over from Installatron to Softaculous but very surprised to find you don't have this backup feature (though have been promising it for 3 years).  Seems I'll be sticking with Installatron.

Hi,

Extremely sorry for the delays in implementing this feature.

We required to make changes in structure for Softaculous to support this hence it took so long and the same is completed.

We have completed the development for backing up an installation over FTP and will be definitely available in the next version of Softaculous and then the support for Dropbox will follow.

I have attached a preview of how it would look in this post.

So.. Does it take almost 3 years to add this feature - and still no news about it?
We ask for remote backup to Cloud services (Google Drive, Dropbox), and you give us backup to FTP?

When can we use GDrive and Dropbox? Please give a realistic answer.

Hi,

Extremely sorry for the delay in adding this feature.

We understand it took much longer than expected for adding remote backups option, however we had to make several changes in Softaculous core to support backups to remote servers and sometimes it also go delayed due to other priorities.

Once the changes in Softaculous core were completed for remote backups we can add more services like Dropbox, Google Drive.

We added support for FTP to start with remote backups and we have also completed integration with Dropbox and are currently testing the same and will try to release it soon.

For Google Drive we will start this integration once Dropbox is released.

Thank you for your patience.

Hi,

Extremely sorry for the delay in reply.

We have launched Softaculous version 4.9.4 which includes the backups support on Dropbox and on remote server using FTPS and SFTP protocols as well.

You can find our entire news post here:
https://www.softaculous.com/news/softaculous/softaculous-4-9-4-released-13904.html

We are, however, working on backup on Google Drive next and will let you know once it is done.

Thank you for your patience. Should you face any issues, please let us know.

Yes. I have an issue. It doesn't work.

I set up the Dropbox account and tried a backup to Dropbox and it freezes at "Checking the submitted data 95%".

Nothing has appeared in my Dropbox account and no email to indicate success or failure.

I tried setting up a scheduled backup and the backup did go through correctly to Dropbox last night, and I received the email confirmation.

So it seems that it is only the manual backup option that stalls. Just tested it again and still gets stuck on 95%.

More feedback for you....

1. The scheduled backups are working, but they happen for me (in Australia) at 10:30am. Wouldn't it be better to have these run in the middle of the night, local server time?

2. More importantly, the naming of the backups makes the whole thing useless. I am getting backups with a file name something like wp.35_23456.2017-12-06_23-35-03.tar.gz

I have a reseller account and I'm looking to backup a number of wordpress sites every night. They all end up in the one Dropbox folder, so it means I have no way of knowing which backup is from which account. It would seem obvious that the file name should include the name of the account somewhere.

Sorry.. I have been waiting years for this feature and it is still not usable.

Hi,

>>I set up the Dropbox account and tried a backup to Dropbox and it freezes at "Checking the submitted data 95%".
We will need to debug this issue for which we would require your control panel login details. Please open a support ticket with us at : https://www.softaculous.com/support/ with the details.

You can set custom timings for your auto backups during installation by setting the 'Automated Backups' option to 'Custom' and then filling in your preferred timings in the 'Automated Backups Cron Time' text boxes that appear below. You can set the same from the Edit Installation page of the Softaculous as well.

>>2. More importantly, the naming of the backups makes the whole thing useless. I am getting backups with a file name something like wp.35_23456.2017-12-06_23-35-03.tar.gz
Our backup naming convention is the same throughout, in local as well as remote. You can, however, add different dropbox backup locations in Softaculous and set different directories (Backup Location) for different accounts.
https://www.softaculous.com/docs/Add_Backup_Location_Dropbox

Then you can save the respective backup location as the default one for each account or you can also set the backup location differently for each installation while installing or editing the installation in Softaculous from the field 'Backup Location'.

Please let us know for further queries.

"You can set custom timings for your auto backups during installation by setting the 'Automated Backups' option to 'Custom"

Ah.. OK. That's a nice feature. I hadn't realised that option was in there. I can play with that to get a better backup time.

"You can, however, add different dropbox backup locations"

Yes, I found that and it does help the anonymous naming problem a little. But when you are restoring a number of backups, or moving them around in storage they can very easily become muddled. However, I have discovered that the number they are given refers to the unique installation number assigned within Softaculous, so I guess I could keep a reference file somewhere to decode them.

Still, it would be great to have the account name included in the file name in a more obvious format.

Thanks for all your work on this.

Thank you for the suggestion. We will discuss this internally if we can change this.

Regarding the backup now working from the UI please open a ticket with us and we will check it asap :

Also with regard to the naming, where is the date stamp on the backup file name coming from?

My backup file is like this: wp.26_59199.2017-12-10_17-30-02.tar.gz

The backup was taken at 4:30am on the 11/12/17 (that's local server time as it ran from the cron job). The date stamp is 11 hours behind and makes it look like the backup was taken the previous day.

Backups are very important and they need to have meaningful and accurate labels.

Hi,

The backup file date stamp comes from the timezone selected in Softaculous admin panel.

Please login as admin on the server and go to Settings page and choose the correct timezone.
