Hi
I backed up some sites a while ago, and closed my previous host.
I wanted to use cloud servers, so chose cloudways.

Now they dont have softaculous installed, and after giving them the tar file, they say they are no images, plugins or themes.

Is there an option to save backup with no content, only DB? The file size is 133 MB and the site was small.

Could you tell me the location of media library or plugins in the backup so I can check.

Is there anyway to reinstall this directly on a server not running softaculous, or should I install on a third party that allows standard backups and use that on cloudways?

Is it easy to do this on XAMPP locally, then I wouldnt need to sign up for new host.

Thanks

Hi,

The backup by default contains the media, plugins and themes.

If it is a WordPress installation it you should find the files in wp-content folder. You can untar the backup on your local machine and check the contents.

The backup can be restored manually on any server without the need of Softaculous :
https://www.softaculous.com/docs/enduser/manual-restore/

However if your domain or the path to installation has changed you will need to update it accordingly in the contiguration file and database.

Hi

BTW I dont have access to the new server / command line I guess, I'm just a user.

There is something strange going on with these backups. I have tried opening them on my PC using winzip and someone else tried wintar or some such app, and it throws errors when unpacking. It says unexpected end of archive.

However, the new host said they could open it, but files were missing. So maybe its corrupted, but it seems to get different results from different unzip apps.

So I looked at the other backups I made when I changed host as we had 6 websites and I backed them all up with softaculous as I thought it was very easy when i used it to restore before. All of those archives also have the same error when i try to open them in winzip.

So it seems that winzip cant open a softaculous archive? Is there some other program to use that can? Or is it the case that all my backups were corrupted, which suggests that the tool didnt work properly on that hosts server.

Is it possible to repair these archives?

Hi,

The backups should be decompressed with Winzip or any other tool that can decompress a tar file.

It seems the backup was corrupted.

If you can open a support ticket with us we can check if it is possible to extract as much data from the backup file :
