Topic : Replacing a Drupal website

Posted By: maxmeno1 on May 24, 2017, 10:21 am
Hello;

I have a legacy Drupal 6 website (Softaculous installation) that finally is going to be replaced by a Drupal 7, updated version. I built the D7 website on a different server and now I'm ready to move it and replace the Drupal 6 installation.

Question: if I just
1) compress/move the old site,
2) place the new one in the same folder, pointing to the new database,
would Softaculous simply take note of this operation and simply forget about the original D6 installation + database? Or am I looking for trouble?
Hope it's clear....

Thanks

Hi,

Manually transfer files over Drupal 6 installation and change Database credentials.

Once this is done go to the Edit Installation page in Softaculous and update the database details :

Oops... One problem here.

As "Installation details", Softaculous only gives me
- Directory
- URL
- Backup location

No way to update database name and password.

The fist time I logged in, I got a message saying more or less "Oops... It looks like Drupal version is 7.x and not 6.x... Click here to update the information"

I did and now it shows as 7.54 in the installations list (with a "clone" option icon that I don't have for the other ones). But I don't think I can trust Softaculous with doing any safe upgrade/backup with this install.

Thoughts?

Thanks
M.
