Had used ampps last spring, last about 10 months ago.  Used the ampps uninstaller, then installed 3.4.  Wouldn't run.  Uninstalled again, deleted all files & folders, got rid of any registry keys referring to ampps.  Installed again.

Said new update available.  I chose "no" since 3.4 is the newest version.

Task Manager said that ampps is running, but nothing comes up.  No window with error message.  Waited > 5 min.

Closed ampps via Task Manager, clicked on program icon again, this time Task Manager shows that ampps is not running.

Go to the folder containing ampps.exe, click on it, Taks Manager says it's running but again no window, no error message, nada.

Running Windows 7 x 64, have all windows updates.

Install location:  I:\Ampps\  (not my C drive, this I:\Ampps\ location was working fine last spring.

Well, this is interesting.  Went to /localhost/ampps in my browser and ampps is indeed running.  However, there's no control panel anywhere in order to choose which php version to use, or to stop / start apache.

Was the control panel done away with?  If so, how can I start / stop apache or choose the php version to run?

Hi,

In AMPPS new version 3.4. AMPPS run in background without prompting window. Ampps icon is also added in notification bar. you can popup Ampps window by double click on AMPPS icon from notification bar.

We add this feature to avoid AMPPS windows on Windows startup.

There is no icon in the notification bar.  And yes, the notification bar is set to show both the ampps icon and any ampps notifications.

Windows 7 x 64, installed on alternate location.

Hi,

Is Ampps running in background ?

Open command prompt and run following commands.

TASKKILL /F /IM Ampps.exe
TASKKILL /F /IM httpd.exe
TASKKILL /F /IM mysqld.exe

Now Double click on Ampps program. It will start in background and you will see Ampps icon on system tray(Notification bar).

Double click on system tray Ampps icon to popup Ampps window.

Thank you for the suggestion.  Rebooted, ran those 3 commands anyway.  Double-clicked on AMPPS icon which did put it in the taskbar.  When the little box popped up asking me whether I wanted to update and I chose "no", the icon in the taskbar disappeared.

And looking at task manager, ampps was not running.

MySQL was running as a background process, as were the 2 Apache processes.

Killed those 3 processes, double-clicked on AMPPS again, this time chose to update even though it's the most recent version.  This time it told me to change php version to 5.4 (? maybe 5.3).

So I clicked "cancel" for the update process, then the AMPPS icon disappeared from the taskbar again with MySQL & Apache running in the background.  And of course there's no way to change the php version from the /localhost interface.

I have the same issue, I'm on Windows 10 Pro, tried multiple times to install with a similar experience as IceTater. Even downloaded the installer a few times.

Just for grins I did a complete scan of my system with both Norton & Malwarebytes, then reset the windows notification area cache.  No changes.

Does anyone have a reliable download site for AMPPS 3.3?  I'm seeing the problem seems to crop up with clean installs.  If I could get 3.3 to work, maybe then the update would work ok.  Or at least, I could get some work done with 3.4.

This threadthread posted a temporary solution.  But if you forget to do the right-click thing right away, you're out of luck until you get into task manager and kill the MySQL and Apache processes.

OK, this seems to work.

1)  Do the right-click trick as above with "restore".

2)  Now right-click the icon in the notification bar and choose "configuration".  A teeny-tiny minimized window should show up in the lower-right hand corner of the screen, where it's easy to miss.  Pop open that icon window.

3)  Now choose "Start on Session Startup" and consider disabling "Check for AMPPS update".  Apply & close the window.

Now the control panel icon should persist in the toolbar notification area.  I did have to shutdown MySQL & Apache via Windows Task Manager one more time.  I don't know the reliability of this work-around yet.

Woops, that's lower-left hand corner, not lower-right.

Windows 10 Ever since I updated to 3.4 No icon in system tray. So I can't change which PHP to choose etc..

The above fix does not make any sense to me, Maybe its for older windows versions?

Hope this bug is fixed soon.

Ok above fix does work.

I mis understood what had to be done.

When close down apache and mysql, in your task manager you can now double click on ampps.exe
When it opens go to your system tasbar and right click on the icon and click on restore.

I got the earlier reply slightly wrong.

Thanks for the fix IceTater :)
