Poll Question : Do you think Webuzo menu structure is user-friendly comparatively to other control panels?
Yes, it is quite comfortable and nothing needs to be changed. (0) (0%)
It's inconvenient to have installation applications in front of your eyes all the time. Would be nice to have the long application list on the left collapsed. (0) (0%)
The menu needs to be completely re-structured. The applications' list on the left needs to be moved to a separate installation page and be access only when necessary. (1) (100%)

Hi All,

Giving a try to Webuzo for the first time and coming with background of using various control panels in the past what I found quite inconvenient in Webuzo is its menu structure.

The long list of application categories on the left makes it feel like not a control panel, but an installer. I get it - it is also an installer. However, just think: the end-users INSTALL their application, let's say WordPress website, just once (or very rare for that matter), but they log into control panel quite often to MANAGE their websites.

I wonder is it possible to customize our instance of Webuzo to still have access to the application list in the left column (by probably clicking an uncollapse link) when necessary, but to have it hidden or collapsed most of the time?

Hi Nikhil,

The only question left is how fast this kind of suggestions are usually implemented? You see we need to start deploying new servers to our customers and we were looking to switch to Webuzo, however with this state of the navigations system - when it looks like an installation UI rather than control panel UI - we really can not.

And then my question have not been answered - it is possible to somehow hide it? If not through some kind of UI setting then maybe we could tamper with the code? Generally is it ok to modify Webuzo according to our needs and comfort or you would recommend to stick with the official version? Don't you, guys, provide any functions to override things in Webuzo?

This Depends on the Dev team and their process of implementing any change or feature.

The Left-Hand side panel is provided because unlike other panels Webuzo provides many application installations which are not included in the initial install process.

If all these applications are hidden somewhere then the user won't be able to discover those.

There is no way of hiding it as the left-hand side panel has been part of our design since day one.

We value your opinion and I understand that you want to customize the software that you are using which is perfectly fine.

Not to argue, but I believe you missed the main point I was trying to emphasize on from the very beginning: Installation is done just one or rarely, however end-users log into their control panel to manage various configurations for their websites very frequently. So can't you see how irritating for an end-user which has just one or couple, three websites installed once to see the left-side panel which he never uses again all the time.

That's why it should be placed on a separate page and linked to main menu. I am not suggestion to completely hide it, I am just suggesting to use space on the UI more wisely according to the frequency of actually used links. For someone who has already installed an application, it's really a torture to see bunch of installation links that he is not going to ever use.

So start changing and accepting requests to enhance usability. That kind of links to numerous categories and applications are ok for installers such Softaculous, however a control panel like Webuzo must have proper US, where most of the immediately accessible links on UI must be frequently used ones.

Could you please give some hints, links to tutorials as we are completely new to Webuzo? And please ebe little bit verbose and elaborate if it's possible to override UI so the next update won't nullify all the efforts.

Hi,

>>So no any ETA?
Currently, I can't provide you any ETA, but I can assure you we have this feature in our TO-DO list.

As I said before we are open to suggestion and wouldn't mind changing any part of the UI which improves  the User experience.

>>Could you please give some hints, links to tutorials as we are completely new to Webuzo?

You can refer to our Wiki for information regarding each and every feature:
http://webuzo.com/wiki

>>to override UI so the next update won't nullify all the efforts.
As I said before there is no way to override the UI. We will try to add step by step customization features.

Feel free to PM me for any issue or feature request.

That's assuring, thanks for your update. We use Virtualizor and know developers have done and keep doing great job. By the way, the menu on Virtualizor is superb - on the left panel we have everything useful. So we do trust the team. However, what was surprising for us is to realize the fact Webuzo was done as an installer in mind, whereas it was supposed to do as control panel in mind.

For a customer with one or several websites installed once in a while, but with constant need to be managing all other aspects of their websites (DNS, mail, Apache, PHP, etc), the current menu structure is just not convenient. Some might think the product is too raw and not ready for production. Especially for those who are switching from cPanel or Virtualmin the menu structure represent quite serious barrier.

So we will hold converting to Webuzo until this is taken care of.

Maybe hide the left menu will be usefull for small monitor. I never been unconfortable with the left menu ... in any case i am sure will be no issue on alowing to hide that left menu :D it's a good suggestion.

It is really not about size of monitor, but plain usability. You should not use so much space on user interfaces rarely used links. Hide it or make it available via an outstanding link if you still want to emphasize on installer nature of Webuzo, but please make it look like a control panel and not an installer program only.

Or make it possible for hosting companies to override menu structure per their likings. Look at how HostGator customizes cPanel interfaces for their users on Board Image, for example. Another example of good menu structure of frequently used control panel links on Virtualmin Board Image

We have lot's of customers who do not care of what multiple installation options they have, because they have just one or couple WordPress or Drupal websites and that's it. They never install new ones, they newer re-install their websites which are already in productions. However, what their care about is easy availability of main control panel feature to manage their existing websites.

I hope you take this in constructive way as we really want to Webuzo. It has everything indeed, but the menu simply does not work for our use case.

Could someone make those images fit into the forum format - I didn't know they are too large? Aren't we allowed to edit our posts?
