It depends what you mean about a custom html editor. There are a few possibilities to add HTML, CSS and Javascript code. So if you want to use a editor you can first try out the code in an editor you like and then paste your code in a widget.
Most freedom gives the Rich Text widget. However be awere that changing HTML and/or CSS may affect your standard SitePad code. There is a Embed widget to paste HTML code and furthermore there are widgets that offer adding of CSS code.
You can use the Navigator to goback to your additional HTML and/or CSS code if it doesn't display anything on the screen.

Did't you find under the left SidePad Menu under Advanced and Google Analytics the procedure for entering the Tracking ID for Google Analytics? There is also a signon link.

There are many solutions to see the HTML code. The simple and cheapest way is to use your web browser:
Firefox: right click on element and choose inspect Element for look to an element or choose page source. The first option gives you the opportunity to see all active CSS options and there value.
Chrome: Right click on element or Ctrl Shift I.
Of course you can also add extra specific add-ons for both.

Be aware that your SitePad webpage is being generated. So it will never be the optimal code, but more one fit all solution. So you have no control over all that empty space to remove it (that is the price of the convenience).

Also note that CSS markup and Javascript code can be added website wide, per web page and per widget.
