From some older threads I have understood it's not (yet) possible to send emails using AMPPS. I have also understood I have to set up a local mailserver (I'm on Mac).

Can anyone point to some resources or give some hints on how to do that and what I have to do inside AMMPS or php.ini? I have been searching and reading a lot but everything I find is not related to AMMPS.

Hi,

Do you need it to test your PHP script ? OR to get installation details of scripts installed by Ampps ?

Hi Tidus, thanks for your reply.

It is indeed about being able to test sending emails in PHP code. In the meantime I discovered this page with mail settings in AMPPS:
http://localhost/ampps-admin/index.php?act=email
Filling in the details of (for example) the mailserver of one of my webhosts should be enough to get my email working?

That setting is the one for receiving Installation details done through ampps. And it works if SMTP settings are properly entered.

For e.g:
Gmail Settings:
SMTP Server : ssl://smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port : 465
SMTP Username : your gmail address
SMTP Password : Your ID Password (It will be stored on your machine)

Ah ok, thanks. I'm not using the Ampps install process for apps at the moment (prefer manual installs). But I'll keep it in mind.

So the above settings don't allow sending emails by PHP scripts? Any hints on what to do for that? Do I change settings in php.ini located at /applications/ampps/php-5.3/etc/php.ini?

No. You won't be able to send mails through php.ini if you haven't installed/configured Mail Server locally. We won't be able to help you much with installation of Mail Server.

You can write a code in your php script to send mails through working smtp servers.

OK, thanks a lot for the help, appreciated.

I'll go and do some research on how to install a mail server.
