I'm trying to migrate my local installs from MAMP to AMPPS. I've exported and imported the databases via the phpMyAdin in AMPPS.

This is where I hit the wall... The local sites are in folders located on portable drive and I cannot seem to connect them. I'm sure I'm missing something, searching the kb has not helped me....

Hi,

You can create a symlink to /Applications/AMPPS/www/yoursite or you can create an alias from enduser panel.

Also make sure absolute path used in the database and files are changed to correct path after migrating.

The path to create the symlink will point to the Applications/AMPPS/www directory, right? All sites under the unaltered setup should live in the www folder. My development sites live outside of that folder on an external drive. E.G., LaCie/Documents/LocalSites/

I've imported the data base files, but how do I make the link to the files that are located at LaCie/Documents/LocalSites/?

It is not clear to me where in the AMPPS interface I do that.

Found this thread to get my sites seen by AMPPS, http://www.worldoweb.co.uk/2013/ammps-for-mac-changing-the-apache-document-root-path which worked (setting AMPPS to recognize the folder path of external drive path).

However, now data base can't connect. I've imported the db's but not connecting.

I give up, back to MAMP.

It's so easy to establish the root directory outside of MAMP, why so complicated here? You have such wonderful tools and functionality, yet something so simple (to you at least) you make so hard for the average users (maybe even less than average technical experience). But if I can get it to work under MAMP with such ease, you might consider doing the same.

This will be an issue with dual boot systems with smaller SSD's as root, and data files on outside drives (think Mac Pro).

Hi,

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Instead of changing the DocumentRoot you can create alias or domains too from Enduser Panel. I always recommend domains since you can create the domain name exactly or similar to your website name so that URL remains same when it is live.

If you want to change the DocumentRoot anyway, there are two places in httpd.conf where user need to change the DocumentRoot. You can search for it in the file and change the path as required.
