Softaculous

Topic : Softaculous sees wrong MySQL version

Posted By: Themis-T on September 28, 2014, 6:47 am
Hi,

Softaculous cannot see the installed MySQL version and prevents Moodle 2.4.1 from being updated.

The server has DirectAdmin control panel and MySQL version is 5.1.72 and Moodle was installed using Softaculous

When trying to update Moodle to version 2.6.5 it shows an error that it needs MySQL newer than 5.1.33.

Please see the error below:

Quote
The following errors were found:
Required MySQL version greater than equal to 5.1.33 AND found version is:

Note that it doesn't show the  installed mysql version.
Is there a bug that prevents Softaculous from seeing the installed mysql version?

Is there any way to fix this and update Moodle?

Thanks

Tim

Hi,

We use the following command to determine the MySQL version :
/usr/bin/mysql -V

Can you please check what is the output for the same on your server ? Also is exec() function disabled in your server's PHP binary ?

Hi,

We use exec() function to execute the above command to check the requirements.

Can you please let us know which control panel do you use ?

Hi,

Sorry I missed that.

Since Softaculous uses exec() function to check the requirements and it is disabled on your server the requirement check fails. You can define the MySQL version using hooks :
http://www.softaculous.com/docs/Hooks#Define_MySQL_Version

If you define the MySQL version in the hooks Softaculous will skip the requirements check.

I 'play' at websites and have designed a few for my own projects and small charities that I help with. I'm fed up having to manually load up Wordpress becasue each time I need to teach myself how to do it. Green Geeks hosting suggested I check softaculous but I'm not sure which plan to look at. It says $12/year for vps, so does that mean that I can use this for any further domains I add on to that space or will I need to pay $12 each time? Also, will it take long to sort out and how difficult is tnat to do
Thank You

Hi,

Are you using a VPS ? If yes you need to purchase Softaculous once and then it will be available for all your accounts on that server for $12/year.

If you are not using VPS or do not have root access you will have to ask your host to install Softaculous for you.
