Topic : Ampps on Linux Mint Can Not Access browser

Posted By: leroyr on May 2, 2019, 2:57 pm
I installed Ampps-3.8-X86_64 on a Samsung laptop Model NP365E5C-S04US
running Linux 64 bit Mint 19.1 Cinnimon. The system has an AMD A6-4400M
APU, a 500 GB Hard Drive, and 8 GB of RAM.
Initially Apache would
not start. A search of the Forums found a solution. I had to install
another lib file.  Them Apache started fine. Next I could not read the
Apache logs, found out that they only work if gedit is installed.
Installed gedit, now I can read the logs.

Now ampps starts up
just as it should.  Problem is that nothing happens if I click any of
the 3 right most icons at the top of the ampps panel, I can click the
far left icon (icon with 9 squares). Of the 6 choices displayed, only 4
work. The "Wiki" and "Write Testimonial" do not, So, it would seem that
ampps can not perform any function that requires it to open a browser. I
initially had Chromium set as my default browser so I tried changing
the default browser to Firefox.  That did not solve the problem.

Where do I go from here?

I previously had problems installing Ampps on a Fedora system.  I opened a trouble ticket (#639141). A Softaculous support person named Rishikesh worked the problem for some time and then gave up and closed the ticket without a resolution. After trying to install on a Linux Mint system, I opened this thread. As you can see, no solution after a year on the community board. I even mentioned the issue to Pulkit Gupta, CEO & Founder of Softaculous when I met him at a WordCamp function. He assured me it should work and asked me to contact support again.  But by then I had lost my patience with Ampps. My suggestion is; forget about Ampps and go with Local by Flywheel https://localwp.com/. It is free, and a more elegant solution. That is what I did.
