I want to upgrade a Joomla site to Joomla 4 and I found Cloning and Staging.

What are the differences between both proposals.

Apparently when making a clone, you will use the same database than the original. Will softaculous create all cloned table with a different prefix ?

When staging, there will be a new database created automatically by softaculous.

Be cloning or staging, there is no possibility to assign the staged or cloned installation to another domain.

I would appreaciate if someone could elaborate on the choice between the two solutions.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Clone allows you to create a duplicate copy of your installation. It has separate files and separate database and you can edit the sites independently. It won't affect the other installation.

Staging also creates a duplicate copy of your installation but it saves a linking in Softaculous records that if you want to push the staged site back to the live site you can do that. You cannot do this with Clone.
