Topic : Kimai Time Tracking Needs Update to Version 2

Posted By: freecicero on September 23, 2018, 10:09 am
I am a lawyer and would really like to use the KIMAI time tracking program, but the version you have is obsolete and has been replaced by the dramatically improved version 2 located here:  v2 dot kimai dot .org
I am fairly technically minded (I am sure not as much as many who post here though) but like most lawyers and professionals who use time tracking programs I am not able to install it completely by myself.

I use Softaculous all the time and love it, and would really appreciate your updating the list of programs to include the latest KIMAI - version 2.
Thanks very much!

Hi,

I just checked the v2 of Kimai and it still not production ready and is missing some of the important features that are present in v1. It is mentioned in their v2 announcement here :
https://www.kimai.org/blog/2018/kimai-v2-announcement/

Once they release a stable v2 we will update it in Softaculous asap.

Hi I been using softaculous for alot of application and I really like the way you are doing an easy install of open source projects. It has saved me quite a few headaches over the years.
I've also been following Kimai V2 project and hoping for the v1 being bumped to v2 some time soon. However after reading a tread on github (https://github.com/kevinpapst/kimai2/issues/318) i came to the conclusion that you are waiting for a feature complete application that is a dropon replacement for V1, whereas my understanding is that the project currently is looking at V2 as a standalone application with new feature and old ones left out. The whole V1 / V2 also adds a bit to this confusion. There are some docs on how to migrate the project from V1 to V2 but it has quite a few drawbacks and limitations, so I don't believe core users that still are using v1 would be interested in getting the new version for now.  (https://github.com/kevinpapst/kimai2/blob/master/var/docs/migration_v1.md)

I was thinking if it would be possible to make an install script with Kimai V2 as a completely new application?

Hi,

As mentioned in their announcement about V2 it is not "Production ready" yet :
But we will very likely not call it “production ready”

Once the latest version is production ready we will update it in Softaculous.

We are not waiting for the migration script. If V2 is production ready and does not have a migration script from V1 we will still update it as a standalone version without migration from V1

Hi!

I am the developer of Kimai v2 and just wanted to drop the message, that the application has matured a lot and that it is now officially production ready AKA stable.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact me either at GitHub or via my profile email address.

Thanks!

I got notified of updates to this thread since I started it.  Just want to repeat that I have been monitoring the progress of this program and checked on the latest version yesterday.  I would VERY much like to see this in softaculous so that I can install this to my own hosting provider.  thank you!!!

Hi,

Kimai version 2 is in Beta. We can only update in Softaculous once it's stable.

We will update it once it's stable.

Hi,

Kimai version 2 is in Beta. We can only update in Softaculous once it's stable.

We will update it once it's stable.

v2.0.16 is now officially stable. The author also told me so himself. Can we get it added to Softaculous asap?
Also, if v1 is installed with Softaculous, following Kimai's v2 update procedures presents multiple challenges. I think the reason is that Softaculous doesn't use git to install v1 (correct?) therefore it's not ready to go for update to v2 via git. Is there a tutorial from Softaculous for how to do this?
Will there be an update path from v1 to v2 from within Softaculous soon?

Hi,

We have released Kimai v2 yesterday :
https://www.softaculous.com/news/scripts/updated-kimai-to-2-0-23-30306.html

You will get the updated package when the Softaculous cron is executed on your server.
