Softaculous

Topic : Install SitePad to test area, not default webpage.

Title is pretty much the whole question. I want to leave the current web site as is, and install SitePad to a test area where I can experiment and work with it to see if I like it and if I can migrate the site over to it.

As an example years ago I used Softaculous to install WordPress, and was able to install it to a subdomain "wptest". So I could access the existing site as "www.existing_site.com" and the WordPress test area as "wptest.existing_site.com.

Also in my CPanel, I have a section titled "Software" that includes a SitePad Icon as well as CloudFlare, Softaculous App Installer, and several others, another section several sections down titled "SitePad Website Builder - Themes" that has theme images I can side scroll through, as well as another section of "Softaculous Apps Installer" that included Wordpress, Joomla and others, but no SitePad there ....
So how do I get started working on a test SitePad?
Thanks,Cla.

In Cpanel click on the SitePad icon in the software section.  Then New Site, in the new site area after you pick your theme you will get to the page shown in the attached screen shot, in the "In Directory" type in where you want the test site to go (I chose testtheme in example below), then the site will be at www.yourdomain.com\testtheme

All files are stored under this directory.  There is no way to switch this once created.  I believe that when you want to switch to make the site live, the best approach is to clone the site (you can do this from the dashboard) and at that time just leave the directory field blank and it should get copied to your main directory.  You can then delete the test site if you would like.

Thank you Greg, very clear explanation.

The docs I read didn't seem that clear and I was leery about crashing a functioning website by accidentally instaling SitePad on top of it.
