I have been wondering why my Wordpress mysql databases for small sites are so large (+2GB). I took one site to play with some optimizing plugins to try and shrink the DB and I cloned the site. The original site was 2.17GB, the cloned site through Softaculous was 87MB. Within two hours the cloned site was 1.8GB.

I looked at the mysql database with phpMyAdmin and instead of the typical 30 or so tables for the site, there were hundreds. The original Wordpress tables all had a 6 letter prefix and they repeat again and again with each repeated set of tables preceded by a different 6 letter prefix.

I went to create a staging site of another site with a large DB and during the process I hit a disk memory wall. Softaculous froze (2 hours at 95%) and I closed the Softaculous window and went to FTP and cleared things off the disk.

When things were working again, where there should have been 6 installations showing in Softaculous there were none. They all disappeared. Something is still happening behind the scenes however as Softaculous is running the updates for those sites.

2 Questions:

Does using Softaculous grow a database file size through creation of duplicate database tables of a site during staging and cloning routines?

Is it possible to restore Softaculous with the installations that were there before the memory crash?

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Softaculous does not create any extra tables or any extra data in our database. It could be possible there is some plugin that is building up the data.

We will followup with your ticket to find the cause of this issue.

In order to import the installations in the Softaculous list you can refer to the following guide :
https://www.softaculous.com/docs/enduser/bulk-import-manual-installations/

Do let us know if you face any issues.
