 General installation questions regarding Webuzo 4, questions about user to install under and the type of ports to be opened (4 Replies, Read 654 times)

I have a new installation with Alma Linux 8.10. When I set this up I created a user to login as and I disabled root logins. Do I run the Webuzo installation commands as the root user (i.e. via sudo) or the user I normally login as?

When I open the ports that are listed for Webuzo should those ports be open for TCP only or TCP and UDP?

Please switch to the root user before installing Webuzo. You can do this by running:

sudo su

Once you are logged in as root, execute the Webuzo installation command. Root access is required because the installer makes system-level changes, such as installing packages and configuring services.

For the firewall, open all required Webuzo ports for TCP only. The exception is DNS (port 53), which requires both TCP and UDP.

Thanks for that reply. I have security concerns around port 22. Assuming I have another way to SSH into that server, can I leave it closed until I need to perform an operation that requires it . . . and close it when I am done? What Webuzo operations require port 22 open?

Webuzo’s panel works without port 22 open, SSH (port 22) is only needed for direct server access, so you can keep it closed and open it only when performing SSH tasks.
