 Import from remote server, Error: Could not Resolve Domain Name (4 Replies, Read 37375 times)

Sorry if this is a copy. This page disappears.

I have bought space on a new ISP for my Wordpress site, but he is not very helpful and wants a hefty sum of money for the migration. Enter do-it-yourself. I have manage to get past two initial error messages, but Could not Resolve Domain Name. Since I use the standard name.domain format, I can't see what is wrong. I have uninstalled WordPress on the target server.

Hi,

Is your domain pointing to the source server ?

For Remote Import to work the domain needs to point to the source server. Once the remote import is completed you can point the domain back to the new server.

Do let us know if you still face the issue.

Thanks a lot for reply!

After a couple of rounds, I think "POINTING" is the problem for me. Explain, please.  How and where do I get “the domain needs to point to the source server”??

There are three places for name data:

1) Destination is pretty obvious
2) Source Domain Name too
3) The one I am not sure about is Server Host (Optional) 

Both domains are up and running. I am duplicating the old site and both will run individually for a while.

I am not exactly sure what FTP Path should be, but the default seems to be /public_html
