Hi,
It seems your control panel user name is different on both the hosts. It is not possible at the moment to restore the backup with different database details. Also your installation might cause issue if it stores the path to your installation which on previous server was /home/ABC/www/ and new server is /home/XYZ/www/ ----------------------- Webuzo - Multi User Hosting Control Panel AMPPS - Best WordPress/PHP/MySQL development tool |

Sorry for my prev post, didn't mention some info:
Hi, I'm not a techie guy but trying to move my Wordpress installation. I already backup with Softculous and trying the method you refer. http://www.softaculous.com/docs/How_to_Restore_a_Backup_on_a_New_Server But until now it still doesn't work. Maybe you can help me? My backup from softaculous filetype is .tar.gz Would it be a problem? Since I read in the tutorial, it should be .zip And then I extract the backup, and zip it. Rename accordingly and then upload to the new server. When I try to backup, I get this error message. Thanks for you help |

another attempt is to use the original backup (.tar.gz) rename it, uploaded it try to restore then get another error message could you please help? many many thanks Hi Pismobook, I think you are doing it the difficult way. Softaculous is amazing, and really easy to make and restore backups of your site(s), but I think it's not meant to migrate your Wordpress from a server to another, with different database names and paths, which requires quite advanced skills. If you want to do it really really easy, I strongly recommend you to use this Wordpress plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicator/ I've used it a couple of times in the past, and it's a life saver: install it in the original server, make a backup using it's own system, and just copy the installer program it creates on the new server: it will auto-install it in the new server, with different URL nd/or different database, with all your old information. I hope you find it useful |

I was able to (mostly) accomplish this with Softaculous 4.6.2. In addition to following the instructions here (http://www.softaculous.com/docs/How_to_Restore_a_Backup_on_a_New_Server), you need to try these steps:
1. On the source server, there is also a folder under .../username/.softaculous called "backups". Find the file in "backups" associated with the .tar.gz file in .../username/softaculous_backups. (You can tell by the date.) It is a small text file. 2. Download that small text file from "backups" and edit it in a text editor. 3. You will see references the control panel name from the source server. Change those to your new control panel name. 4. Copy this updated file to your target server under .../username/.softactulous/backups/ 5. From the softaculous backup/restore, you should see your backup and be able to restore it. I did this and it worked and I could see the public-facing WP site. Now, I wasn't able to log in because my target has no SSL yet. So I think I need to change all references from https:// to http:// in the database. I'll try this tomorrow and see how it goes. |

Hi,
This guide works if your control panel username is the same. Since the control panel user is different you will have to make the changes you described. If the username is the same Softaculous will create the backup info file automatically. ----------------------- Webuzo - Multi User Hosting Control Panel AMPPS - Best WordPress/PHP/MySQL development tool |

Hi,
Since the control panel username has changed the prefix for your database name will also change hence you will have to update the username in wp-config.php as well. In the case where the username is the same you should not face these issues. ----------------------- Webuzo - Multi User Hosting Control Panel AMPPS - Best WordPress/PHP/MySQL development tool |

Hi,
Thank you for sharing the useful information. This post was last updated in 2015 and we have added many features in Softaculous since then. One of them is Remote Import using which you can import any installation from any server to your new server. Here is the guide for the same : https://www.softaculous.com/docs/Remote_Import ----------------------- Webuzo - Multi User Hosting Control Panel AMPPS - Best WordPress/PHP/MySQL development tool |
