I have been struggling for a few days now with this issue. Ever since I upgraded my Free license  to a Premium one the Softaculous icon is missing in all the cPanel accounts.

Here is the things I have tried so far:
1. Rebuilding EasyApache with PHP 5.2 instead of PHP 5.3 (Still using Apache 2.2)

2. /usr/local/cpanel/bin/register_cpanelplugin
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/softaculous.cpanelplugin

3. rm -rf /home/[username]/.cpanel

4. /usr/local/cpanel/bin/unregister_cpanelplugin
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/softaculous.cpanelplugin
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/rebuild_sprites
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/register_cpanelplugin
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/softaculous.cpanelplugin
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/rebuild_sprites

5. /scripts/upcp --force
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/rebuild_sprites

6. Finally I also tried to remove everything and reinstall from scratch:
/usr/local/cpanel/bin/unregister_cpanelplugin /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/softaculous.cpanelplugin
rm -rf /usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous
rm -rf /var/softaculous
rm -rf /etc/cron.d/softaculous
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/addon_softaculous.php
rm -rf /home/[username]/.cpanel
and then reinstalling from scratch.

Items 2,3 &4 was suggested by softaculous support.

Is there any other suggestions please?

I followed what you had posted as we had the same condition on a new server, when I tried to register at command line it could not find GD.pm after installing that
missing perl module and rebuilding using the steps 2,3,4 you mentioned the icon showed up... hope it helps

I am glad it help you. I'm still stuck as it did nothing for me.
I don't get any errors on any of those steps, so I guess I do not have the reference error you had.

After some cPanel support the problem was solved.

I had to enabled the setting "Instant Installs" by going to "WHM >> Main >> Packages >> Feature Manager >> Edit Feature List"

I'm having a similar problem in DirectAdmin

the text link hook is loading, but not the Icon

Any ideas?

Hi,

Are you using a modified theme in DirectAdmin ?
Please give me a demo account to check.
Also please pass the following commands and see again :
chmod -R 0755 /usr/local/directadmin/plugins/softaculous
