AMPPS does indeed work with the "Duplicator" plugin!
Here's what I did:
1. From the Duplicator plugin window in Wordpress admin, I created a package and downloaded it and the installer (install.php). Note: if you're on Mac, the package may automatically be unarchived; however, you need the actual zip file for the installer to work.
2. In the AMPPS folder there's another folder labeled 'www'. I created a subfolder there and labeled it 'wp-test'. I then placed both the zip file (package) and the installer (install.php) in that folder.
3. After starting up AMPPS, I opened a browser and went to:
4. The newly opened index (browser window) lists the installer and the package. I clicked on the installer (install.php) and when it opened, I filled out the necessary fields. There's a very brief tutorial here.
5. Under the database section, I created a 'Name' for the database, but I used the term 'root' for the 'User' field and 'mysql' for the 'Password' field -those two entries ('Username' = 'root' and 'Password' = 'mysql') were the key to making the installation work for me.
6. After making sure all the entries were correct, I clicked the 'Install' button and it worked.
I now have an exact copy of my blog at my 'localhost' where I can do all the testing I need to do before going live.
Sincere thanks for the help!
AMPPS is truly a great product; I would definitely recommend it!
