if you use ampps you dont have to edit the hostfile of windows , if you added a domainname it wil write it down automatic .
like this 127.0.0.1 mydomain.com
first of all what you must know.
if you have a dnsserver running you must setup first your stuff in your dns system.
like a records and ect...
than you can have setup your first domain...
than your subdomain and ect....
if you wanna have visitors on your domain you have to install some dnsserver , open and static ip , like open ports 80,21,110,143,25,587,53
this you wil need first for online and internet.
for localhost testing , dont matter what you use it will work.
let say example.com , than ammps will write in in the hostfile of windows under ip 127.0.0.1 and it will work.
setup a subdomain is just the same...
at new domain like this ->> test.example.com and this domain will work under 127.0.0.1 this are no line domains only for localhost testing...
