 Softaculous cron causing high cpu usage (7 Replies, Read 10581 times)

Hi guys

I have had softaculous active on my server for a number
of months now without any issues,  However,  i noticed that the softaculous cron seems to have eaten my cpu both yesterday and today.

According
to my daily process logs within WHM  i get the following


Top Process%CPU 99.7/usr/bin/php
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/cron.php
Top Process%CPU 99.6/usr/bin/php
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/cron.php
Top Process%CPU 99.5/usr/bin/php
/usr/local/cpanel/whostmgr/docroot/cgi/softaculous/cron.php
I
just wondered if you can advise why the crons have suddenly started to
eat my resources or if you knew of any issues that may have caused this?

Hi,

This is abnormal usage.
It seems that the PHP binary has certain extensions missing.
please change the PHP binary path in Softaculous Admin Panel -> Settings tab to the following:
/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/php

I'm having the same issues after many months of using this with no issues.

i'm running this on several directadmin servers and all have the same issue.




/usr/bin/php /usr/local/directadmin/
plugins/softaculous/cron.php

Hi,

The CPU usage issue in addypaddy server was resolved by specifying the cPanel PHP binary.
In directadmin there is only one PHP binary.

It has been doing this for the last week... the only way i could resolve this was to remove the complete program.

So it's been removed and am no longer using it.

I suggest in the future you test and retest your updates..... when an update to your product causes system admins time to troubleshoot your products, it's not in our best interest to use it.

I posted the above info on the script that was causing this trouble.

Hi,

Can you reinstall Softaculous on a server and let me check if you dont mind.
We tried to replicate the issue but its not happening.
Also we do test our scripts with all possible settings on different environments.
The latest 2.9 does fix a open_basedir problem in DirectAdmin.

I went ahead and removed it completely..... then after a while re-installed it.... I will let you know in the morning if this issues happens again.

If it does I will provide you with any log information you need, but you cant' have access to this machine as it has a few very high security clients on it.

Thank you for all your feedback.
Do let me know if CRON shoots up CPU usage.
I think the open_basedir bug being solved in 2.9, this shouldnt happen again.
Do you have open_basedir enabled in DA ?
