We have decided to un-install Softaculous and move on to another more robust/configurable auto-install product for WHMCS.
While support (our forum post) has been on par with what we paid for the script, we feel that Softaculous isn't ready for prime time when it comes to creating custom Joomla/other installs from a small hosting company perspective. It does however work out-of-the box for the software listed in on the website for WHMCS per our testing.
What we feel is lacking, is the custom install feature isn't documented that well and, after following the instructions to a T, and getting no errors with debug on, our custom Joomla installs just wont work. The documentation page does a good job explaining what the install.xml file should look like but, it has no documentation examples on what pieces should be where when your ready to test a custom install. You have to dig through the install doc to find some bits and pieces of what scripts should be matched but, no documentation on how the WHMCS custom field should be mathed up to the custom install scripts, etc.
We have received a request from your support for a login account to our WHMCS but, in order to do a proper software diagnosis, we would have to provide root level access via SSH along with access to WHM and WHMCS to figure this out. That's just not a risk we are willing to undertake on a production system.
This review isn't trying to paint a negative lite on the software, just being realistic in where it's at in regards to support, documentation, and features from our perspective.
To fix the WHMCS addon problem we dont need root details.
Just the FTP account details and the WHMCS Admin account.
Regards,
Alons
